It is a mindfulness-based approach strongly driven by values. Our emotional experience can strongly dictate our behaviours, and through acceptance and defusion techniques, it can allow the opportunity to live a rich and meaningful life in accordance with the individuals’ values.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a therapy that aims to assist with identifying and challenging the accuracy of one’s thoughts. It helps to identify unhelpful thought patterns and underlying unconscious beliefs which influence the way one reacts to situations and fundamentally makes sense of the world. It can often include behavioural experiments to reality test the accuracy of one’s thoughts and beliefs.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical behavioural therapy is a structured skills based therapy with a focus on 4 core areas, including Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Mindfulness. DBT is delivered in both a group and individual setting.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing therapy (EMDR)

EMDR is currently recognised as the ‘gold standard’ for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The client is led through a process of mapping traumatic memories, the emotions, beliefs and sensations that encompass them. As the individual brings the memory into conscious awareness, they are then led by the therapist to follow their fingers to elicit bilateral stimulation which has been found to assist in memory processing. Essentially, it helps to process ‘stuck’ memories. The emotional distress associated with the memory is said to dissipate as a result of the bilateral stimulation.

This therapy modality is also preferable for individuals who struggle to talk about their traumatic experiences, as only minimal details of the traumatic memory is required.

EMDR is typically used in relation to trauma however it is also relevant to other mental health presentations.

Schema Therapy

In Schema therapy, the individual will discover their own schema profile. A schema refers to the cognitive framework which is developed through our childhood years, and influences how we make sense of and respond to the world around us. Schema therapy assists in identifying these and the patterns they likely create in ones life. Additionally, Schema therapy includes identifying how these schemas can be linked to unmet needs in childhood and how they influence adulthood.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E)

CBT-E is an enhanced form of CBT therapy designed specifically to treat the psychopathology associated to eating disorders, regardless of the specific diagnosis. CBT-E is a structured approach encompassing four distinct stages. The therapy includes identification of thoughts and beliefs that perpetuate the disordered eating behaviours.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia - (CBT-I)

CBT-i is an evidence based therapy specifically designed to assist with treating chronic Insomnia. It assists in identifying the underlying thoughts and behaviours that contribute to insomnia.
